Sensei Kalena Inouye has taken karate since a very young age and has a story that many can relate to. When she was a child, she had been bullied and in need of a true confidence boost. Her father had noticed she had the proclivity for martial arts. Upon this discovery he pushed her to try out martial arts to increase her skills in defending herself against those who could hurt her but also to build self confidence from which she lacked. She flourished in this environment and grew largely as a person upon becoming part of this community.

The world of karate has brought on a newfound perspective for Sensei Kalena. It opened her eyes to a large supportive community that helped her grow as a person, taught her social skills and how to be responsible. As time passed and she continued to learn and hone her martial art, she learned teamwork and cooperation skills as she matured. The more she learned, the more aware she became of her skills and how more prepared she felt for dangerous situations. Her confidence grew enough that it inspired more of her family to join and learn with her and grow as a family.

Sensei Kalena has been studying and honing her karate skills for 11 years, 6 years of those were as a black belt. She obtained her teaching certification as a karate instructor as well.  Alongside this, she has also studied the martial art of kobudo (weaponry) up to the green belt rank. She is fluent in 5 different weapons which are the bow, tonfa, bowkin, kama and the nunchucks. She is eager to teach new students, young and old, the art of Shito-ryu and Kobudo. One of our following accomplished senseis at this small but large communitied dojo.
